Circus Skills Workshops for Schools: A Teacher’s Guide to Booking

If you are the teacher who has been handed the job of booking an enrichment day, this is for you. Circus skills workshops are one of the easiest enrichment bookings to justify and one of the hardest to get wrong, and most of the mistakes happen before anyone picks up the phone. Here is the whole thing, start to finish, including the bit nobody writes about: getting it past the person who holds the budget.

What a Circus Skills Workshop Actually Is

A circus skills workshop is a hands-on session where every child gets their own equipment and a go at every skill. Juggling scarves and balls, plate spinning, diablo, flower sticks, balancing, tightrope walking and more. It is not a show they sit and watch, it is a session they do, and that is the whole point. We bring enough kit for a full class or a full school, set it up before you arrive, and teach throughout so nobody is left stuck at the side.

We have been performing and teaching circus skills for over 30 years, based in Keynsham, Bristol. See circus skills workshops for Bristol schools for the full day format.

What the Day Looks Like

A standard school day is built around your timetable, not ours. The usual shape is an all-school assembly or a big hall session to kick things off, then class-by-class workshops through the morning and afternoon, with a short demonstration at the end so the children can show what they have learned. We work around break times, lunch, and any assemblies you already have booked.

A full school day is £500 and a half day is £400, including the assembly plus class-by-class sessions throughout the day. Half days and individual class sessions can be arranged if your budget is tighter, and multi-day or multi-school bookings work out cheaper per day.

Curriculum Links: The Bit That Gets It Approved

This is the section to copy into your enrichment request. Circus skills are not a novelty day off, they map cleanly onto things you are already teaching:

  • PE and physical literacy – balance, coordination, hand-eye timing, spatial awareness, all taught through play.
  • PSHE and resilience – every skill is something you fail at first and improve at with practice. Children feel that shift themselves.
  • Science and STEM – centre of gravity, forces, momentum and gyroscopic stability, made physical instead of diagrammed.
  • Maths – patterns, sequences, counting and timing in juggling and passing.
  • Teamwork and communication – passing, spotting and encouraging each other.
  • Inclusion – sessions flex to mixed ages, mixed abilities and SEND groups so every child joins in at their own level.

There is a longer piece on this at the surprising academic power of circus skills, and a broader look at the benefits of circus skills.

How to Get the Budget Approved

Enrichment budgets usually have to be spent before the end of the financial year, and the requests that get approved are the ones that arrive with everything already answered. Three things make the difference:

1. Book in the window that suits the budget, not just the calendar. If your budget runs to the end of the financial year, the money is there to be spent before then. Summer term and the end of the school year are the busiest windows, so if you want a date in June or July, enquire in the spring. Schools that ask late are the ones that miss out.

2. Bring the curriculum links above. A request that says “fun circus day” competes with everything else. A request that names the PE, PSHE and science outcomes it delivers competes with nothing.

3. Have the numbers ready. A full day is £500, workshops start from £250, and travel is free anywhere within 20 miles of Keynsham. That is the whole cost, with no booking fee and no agency commission, because you book direct with the performer. Send us your group size and location and we will confirm a figure in writing for your request.

Dates: When to Book

There are four windows when schools book circus workshops, and each has its own logic:

  • Start of the autumn term – enrichment and team-building for a new class, and a way to reset the tone of the year.
  • STEM week and science weeks – circus is a physical way to teach forces, balance and stability.
  • End of the summer term – Year 6 leavers, reward days and end-of-year treats. Book early, this window fills first.
  • Winter and early spring – the quietest window, so it is the easiest to get the date you want and often the best value for a multi-day booking.

Insurance, Safety and Checks

We are fully insured and can send our certificate and risk assessment with your quote, so your business manager has it before they ask. Equipment is inspected and maintained, sessions are run by an experienced performer and teacher, and we adapt pace and kit for SEND groups and mixed abilities. If your school needs a DBS check on file, just say so when you enquire.

What Schools Ask Us Most

How many children can take part at once?

We bring enough equipment for 100+ children, so nobody queues and nobody shares. A class at a time, a year group, or the whole school in the hall all work.

Do we need a hall or a big space?

A school hall is ideal, and a playground or field works in good weather. We only need enough room for the children to move and try each skill safely. We set up and pack down ourselves.

How much does a school circus workshop cost?

A half day is £400 and a full school day is £500, including an all-school assembly and class-by-class sessions. Workshops start from £250, travel is free within 20 miles of Keynsham, and there are no booking fees. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.

Do you cover our area?

We are based in Keynsham and cover Bristol, Bath and the wider South West including Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Travel is free within 20 miles of Keynsham and by arrangement beyond that.

Can you run sessions for a specific theme or week?

Yes. Tell us the theme, whether that is STEM, healthy schools, a book week or an end-of-term reward, and we will shape the session around it.

Ready to Book Your School Day?

Send us your preferred dates, your group size and your location, and we will confirm availability and a written quote, usually within 24 hours. If you need the risk assessment or insurance certificate for a budget request, ask and we will send it with the quote.
